Why SPAR, and not just GAR

Goals Above Replacement (GAR) is a great unit. It tells you how many goals a player added relative to a freely-available replacement-level skater. The trouble is that goals don’t translate to standings points at a fixed rate — and the conversion isn’t symmetric across game states.
